About Noboribetsu Onsen
“Hot Spring Department Store” with 9 types of springs and a natural yield of 10,000 tons of water per day
The name Noboribetsu comes from the Ainu word “nupur-pet”, which means “cloudy white river” or “dark-colored river.” It is said that since ancient times the waters from the hot spring have been plentiful enough to change the color of the river. Noboribetsu Onsen includes “Hell Valley”, where steam and water vapor erupt out of the ground, and it has 9 types of hot springs that produce 10,000 tons of water per day. There are few places like it in the world, and it is sometimes called a “hot springs department store.”
